Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen delivered a stellar performance on Saturday, netting a hat-trick in Galatasaray’s 4-0 triumph over Antalyaspor in the Turkish Super Lig. His remarkable display not only secured a comfortable victory for his team but also served as a warning to Nigeria’s upcoming World Cup qualifying opponents, Rwanda and Zimbabwe.
Osimhen’s prolific form propelled him to the top of the Turkish Super Lig’s goal-scoring chart with 20 goals this season. Galatasaray also extended their lead to 10 points over Fenerbahce, who have two games in hand, as the league heads into the international break.
The Nigerian striker opened the scoring with a clinical finish from Alvaro Morata’s precise cross, giving Galatasaray an early advantage. Shortly before halftime, Osimhen doubled the lead after expertly converting a delivery from Barış Alper Yılmaz. Moments earlier, he had selflessly allowed Morata to score from the penalty spot.
Osimhen completed his hat-trick in the second half, latching onto an exquisite through ball from Yunus Akgün and slotting a low shot past the goalkeeper to seal the 4-0 victory.
With his impressive goal tally, Osimhen surpassed former leader Krzysztof Piatek (18 goals) as the league’s top scorer. His current form is a major boost for the Super Eagles as they prepare to face Rwanda on March 21 in Kigali and Zimbabwe on March 25 at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.
Osimhen, who missed previous qualifiers due to injury, expressed his determination to help Nigeria get back on track in their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign.
“You have to give everything; you know it’s a dream of every youngster to be at the World Cup. Mine is no exception. So for me, I want to be there just like every one of my teammates. We are really looking forward to the game against Rwanda and Zimbabwe to try and correct all the mistakes we have made in the past. So, we will be ready,” Osimhen said.
Under the guidance of new coach Eric Chelle, the Super Eagles are eager to revive their qualification hopes, with Osimhen expected to play a pivotal role in leading the team’s attack.
