The wife of Osun State Governor, Ngozi Adeleke, has called on eligible voters across the state to turn out and participate in the ongoing governorship election, assuring residents that voting was peaceful at her polling unit.
Speaking shortly after casting her ballot on Saturday, Ngozi dismissed concerns over intimidation and urged those who had yet to vote to proceed to their respective polling units.
“As you can see, there’s no intimidation of any kind,” she said.
She said there was no violence or confrontation at her polling location and urged Osun residents to exercise their civic rights by voting.
“I’m saying it authoritatively to every Osun indigene that there’s peace, everything is going on peacefully. There’s no rancour, there’s no fight. There’s no intimidation of any kind,” she said.
She added, “Please, wherever you are, as long as you’re an electorate, please leave your house. Go to your polling unit and vote. That’s your civic right.”
Her appeal came as voters arrived at polling units across the state to cast their ballots in the governorship election.
Earlier, Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is seeking re-election on the Accord Party platform, voted at Ward 02, Polling Unit 009, Abogunde Compound, in Ede North Local Government Area.
The election is taking place across the state’s 30 local government areas, with Adeleke and other candidates seeking the mandate of the electorate.
Security concerns and allegations of intimidation had dominated parts of the build-up to the election, prompting political stakeholders and civil society organisations to call for a peaceful and credible electoral process.
Voting began on Saturday amid the deployment of security personnel to polling units and strategic locations across Osun State.
