The convoy of Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), was reportedly blocked by suspected thugs along Boko Road near the Air Force Base in Benue State on Tuesday.
Obi’s campaign photographer, Esther Umoh, who shared videos of the incident on X, alleged that the men attempted to prevent the convoy from entering the state.
The videos appeared to show men carrying sticks and other objects as the convoy turned back, while police officers tried to separate the group from the vehicles.
The convoy eventually left the area. Obi was reportedly in the state to visit communities affected by the Yelwata killings.
The allegation that the attackers were politically sponsored has not been independently established, while the police and Benue State Government had yet to issue detailed comments on the incident.
