The city of Lagos and its surrounding areas are grappling with a worsening petrol scarcity, with motorists and other users facing prolonged queues as they scramble to secure fuel.
Reports from Vanguard indicate that the long queues observed at some filling stations yesterday have now spread to numerous outlets across the region.
Abubakar Maiganda, the National President of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), disclosed that his members have been unable to procure the product for several days, exacerbating the shortage.
In contrast, Femi Soneye, the spokesperson of the NNPC Limited, has offered reassurance, stating, “We are pleased to confirm that there are no supply issues and our products remain readily available.”
Despite the conflicting statements from IPMAN and NNPC Limited, the visible queues and reports of scarcity underscore the challenges faced by motorists and consumers in accessing petrol, a vital commodity for transportation and various sectors of the economy.
The situation has raised concerns among residents and businesses, with many expressing frustration over the uncertainty surrounding petrol availability and the impact on daily activities.
As the scarcity persists, stakeholders are calling for swift action to address the root causes and ensure a steady supply of petrol to meet the needs of the populace.
