The Osun State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of the state Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Mayowa Adejoorin, in connection with a shooting incident that disrupted a political rally in Ilesa.
The command disclosed this on Saturday through its spokesperson, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, who said the commissioner was arrested at the scene of the incident.
According to Ojelabi, police personnel were immediately deployed to the area after receiving reports of the disturbance. The officers subsequently cordoned off the scene and recovered several items believed to be relevant to the investigation.
“Immediately the incident was reported, our personnel moved to the scene and cordoned off the area before some exhibits were recovered,” Ojelabi said.
He listed the recovered items as spent cartridges and caps belonging to personnel of the Amotekun Corps.
Ojelabi further confirmed that Adejoorin was taken into police custody for questioning as investigators work to establish the circumstances surrounding the shooting and disruption of the rally.
“Adejoorin was arrested at the scene and has been taken to the command for questioning as part of the investigation process,” he added.
The police have not disclosed whether the commissioner has been charged with any offence, while investigations into the incident are ongoing.
