Paris Saint-Germain is gearing up to make a second bid of
€120m for Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen,
as they aim to bolster their
attacking options. In June, the French champions had their initial offer of
€100m rejected by Napoli. While the new bid falls short of Napoli president Aurelio
de Laurentiis’ valuation of €150m, it still surpasses offers from other
interested clubs.
De Laurentiis, considering PSG to be the only team capable of
affording Osimhen, has dismissed suitors like Chelsea, Manchester United, and
Real Madrid, who have expressed interest in acquiring the talented striker.
“The only club that could afford Victor Osimhen is Paris
Saint-Germain,” De Laurentiis revealed to Mediaset. He added that if PSG
president Nasser Al Khelaifi wants to submit a bid around €200m, they will see
what happens, but he personally believes that Osimhen will stay at Napoli.
While negotiations for Osimhen’s contract extension with
Napoli are underway, the club is aiming to introduce a release clause that
would only be valid in the summer of 2024 for a fee exceeding €100m. Despite
the gap in negotiations, Napoli remains determined to satisfy their star player
with a suitable contract.
Bayern Munich has shown significant interest in Osimhen, but
they consider Napoli’s economic demands to be excessive, leading them to halt
negotiations. Currently, PSG poses the biggest obstacle for Napoli as they have
identified the Nigerian international as the ideal replacement for Kylian
Mbappé, the World Cup winner.
Sources from France indicate that PSG is on the verge of
submitting an offer of approximately €120m for Osimhen. Last season, Osimhen’s
impressive performance saw him score 26 goals and provide five assists in 32
league appearances, playing a pivotal role in Napoli clinching the Serie A
title after more than three decades. He also became the first African player to
secure the prestigious Capocannoniere award, given to the top scorer in Serie
A.
As Osimhen eagerly awaits the developments surrounding his
future, he is scheduled to resume pre-season training on July 19, ready to
continue his promising career.
