In a significant development, the Lagos State Police Command announced late Tuesday night that they had taken into custody the controversial singer Azeez Fashola, widely known as Naira Marley, in connection with the highly controversial death of his former record label signee, Ilerioluwa Aloba, alias Mohbad.
According to Benjamin Hundeyin, the Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Police Command, Azeez Fashola, aka Naira Marley, is now in custody for interrogation and other investigative activities.
Earlier on the same evening, Naira Marley took to Twitter to reveal his return to Lagos, Nigeria, with the intention of assisting authorities in the ongoing investigation into Mohbad’s death. He expressed the importance of his contribution to the case and his commitment to seeking the truth and justice.
“I’d like to share that I’ve just arrived back in Lagos, Nigeria, to assist the authorities with the ongoing investigation. It’s important I do my part for Imole. I’ll be meeting with the police with hopes for the truth to be uncovered and for justice to prevail,” Naira Marley stated in his tweet.
Mohbad, aged 27, tragically passed away on September 12, prompting the police to invite Naira Marley and controversial music promoter Balongun Eletu, aka Sam Larry (currently in police custody), for questioning regarding Mohbad’s untimely demise.
Last week, the police confirmed that pathologists had completed the autopsy on Mohbad, and they are awaiting the results. This development followed the exhumation of Mohbad’s remains by a joint team consisting of the Nigeria Police Force and health officials.
In a related development, the police also arrested the nurse responsible for administering an injection to the deceased singer prior to his passing on September 12.
A coroner’s inquest into Mohbad’s death commenced at the Lagos State Magistrate’s Court in Ikorodu last Friday. As the investigation unfolds, the Nigerian public awaits further details to shed light on the circumstances surrounding this controversial case.
