Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen finds himself in hot water as Napoli considers imposing a fine following his conduct during their recent Serie A clash against Bologna on Sunday evening.
Osimhen displayed visible frustration as he was substituted during the game, directing his ire towards manager Rudi Garcia and making an animated approach to the bench. The incident unfolded after Osimhen missed a crucial penalty in the 0-0 draw against Bologna, leading to his substitution in the late stages of the match.
As he exited the field, the former Lille star appeared agitated with Garcia and symbolically held up two fingers, seemingly suggesting the need for multiple strikers on the pitch to secure a goal.
Il Mattino reports that Osimhen and Garcia are scheduled to convene at Napoli’s training ground later this week to address the incident, with the possibility of a fine hanging over the player.
In the aftermath of the match, Napoli captain Giovanni Di Lorenzo reportedly engaged in a stern conversation with Osimhen inside the dressing room.
When questioned about Osimhen’s passionate reaction, Garcia remained tight-lipped in his post-match interview, stating, “As for when he went off, we talked about that, what I say to my players remains in the locker room. We have a lot of quality in the squad and on the bench, so Simeone, Politano, and Elmas came on, I still have Jesper available too.”
Osimhen will now aim to lead Napoli to victory in their upcoming match against Udinese, scheduled for Wednesday.
