South African Premiership side Chippa United have confirmed the departure of Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, ending his four-year spell with the club.
In a statement released on Thursday, Chippa United disclosed that Nwabali formally requested to leave despite having signed a three-year contract extension in 2024. The club said it agreed to honour his request after careful consideration.
“Chippa United Football Club confirms that Stanley Nwabali has formally submitted a request to depart the club. After careful consideration, the club has agreed to grant his release,” the statement read.
The club also expressed appreciation for the Nigerian international’s service, describing his time at Chippa United as marked by dedication and professionalism.
“We would like to sincerely thank Stanley Nwabali for the years of service, commitment, and professionalism he has shown during his time at Chippa United Football Club. His contribution to the club will always be appreciated.”
Reacting to his exit, the 29-year-old took to Instagram to share an emotional farewell message alongside a video tribute, thanking his teammates, coaches, fans and the club’s leadership.
“It was more than a family,” Nwabali wrote. “As I stand here to say farewell, I want to say thank you for the memories, the hard-fought victories, the lessons from setbacks, and every moment we shared.”
He added that he leaves with “a heart full of gratitude,” while paying special tribute to the club chairman, whom he described as a father figure.
Nwabali joined Chippa United from Katsina United in 2022 and went on to make about 70 appearances for the club, establishing himself as one of their key players and earning recognition with the Nigerian national team.
