Super Eagles striker Kayode Olanrewaju has filed for the dissolution of his marriage to his estranged wife, Ezinne, citing irreparable breakdown of the relationship. The Turkey-based footballer is also seeking custody of their children and demanding N1bn in damages from UK-based pastor Tobi Adegboyega for an alleged adulterous affair with Ezinne.
The marital discord between Olanrewaju and Ezinne has escalated with allegations of infidelity and other serious issues. Ezinne, in response, has filed legal actions against Olanrewaju, accusing him of making unfounded allegations of infidelity and witchcraft against her and her mother, and damaging her phone.
In her suit dated March 20, 2024, Ezinne detailed an incident where Olanrewaju arrived from Turkey unannounced, verbally abused her and her mother, and accused them of witchcraft. During this altercation, he allegedly smashed her iPhone 15 Pro Max.
Olanrewaju’s cross-petition, filed on July 1, 2024, and obtained by our correspondent, accuses Ezinne of multiple adulterous affairs with the UK-based pastor and other men since their marriage in 2013. He also alleges that Ezinne kidnapped their children, who were later rescued by the Department of State Services (DSS).
According to Olanrewaju, “Whilst the Cross Petitioner was still trying to get his facts right and phantom a means to have all the lingering issues resolved, the Respondent, under the guise of going to church on March 24, 2024, abducted the children of the marriage and absconded to an unknown location in Abuja.” Following this, Olanrewaju’s lawyer petitioned the DSS, who tracked and arrested Ezinne with the children at a hideout in Brains and Hammers Estate, Abuja.
Olanrewaju further accuses Ezinne of undermining their joint business ventures. He claims that Ezinne conspired with her ex-lover, Ugochukwu Igboanugo, to misappropriate property documents and rental proceeds for her personal use and her relationship with Adegboyega.
Olanrewaju also argues that Ezinne’s actions demonstrate a lack of concern for their children’s educational and mental well-being. He cited her having romantic discussions with other men in the presence of the children and taking them out of school without regard to their education.
Olanrewaju’s legal demands include:
- A decree of dissolution of the marriage on the grounds of irretrievable breakdown.
- Custody of the children with visitation rights for Ezinne.
- N1bn in damages from Pastor Adegboyega for emotional trauma, financial loss, and loss of goodwill due to the alleged adulterous relationship.
The court has scheduled the matter for hearing on September 24, 2024.
