
A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to Prof. Cyril Ndifon, the suspended Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Calabar, and his lawyer, Sunny Anyanwu, who are currently standing trial on charges of alleged sexual harassment and attempting to pervert the course of justice.
The court, presided over by Justice James Omotoso, ruled on their bail application on Friday. Prof. Ndifon was granted bail in the sum of N250 million with two sureties, while Mr. Anyanwu was granted bail in the sum of N50 million with two sureties as well.
According to Justice Omotoso’s ruling, the sureties for Prof. Ndifon must own properties within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) valued at a minimum of N150 million each. Additionally, both Ndifon and his sureties are required to submit their bank statements, and Ndifon must surrender his international passport to the court.
Similarly, Mr. Anyanwu’s sureties must also submit their bank statements, and both he and his sureties must provide an undertaking not to interfere with the case, assure their readiness to attend trial, and commit not to cause any delays.
The court adjourned the matter until Monday for the continuation of the hearing.
