Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, widely known as Tems, has spoken out about receiving death threats in connection with unfounded rumors of her being pregnant for American rapper Future. The rumors gained traction in September when Tems attended Burberry’s Spring/Summer 2023 London Fashion Week show wearing a black dress paired with a purple fluffy coat and matching heels.
Despite the singer’s attempts to dismiss the pregnancy speculations, she revealed in a recent interview with The Beat 99.9 FM in Lagos that she became the target of threatening messages via her direct messages (DMs). Some individuals even questioned her decision to allow Future to “allegedly impregnate” her.
Tems clarified, “When I heard that I was pregnant, I did not actually think anybody believed it. I did not know it was serious until I started getting messages like death threats, like, ‘How dare you? Of all the people in the world, Future, really?’ And I have never met him in my life. So it’s crazy.”
The Oscar-nominated singer emphasized that she has never encountered Future, debunking any notion of a romantic involvement with the American rapper.
Tems, who gained international recognition in 2020 for her collaboration with Wizkid on the hit song “Essence,” recently received her first Grammy trophy in the ‘Best Melodic Rap Performance’ category for her contribution to ‘Wait for U.’ TIME magazine also listed her among the top 100 people to watch in 2023, further solidifying her rising career.
