Nigeria’s
Tobi Amusan, the reigning world champion and holder of the women’s 100m hurdles
record,
has been accused of a doping violation by the Athletics Integrity Unit
(AIU).
In
the early hours of Wednesday, Amusan took to her social media platform to
announce that she had been charged by the AIU for failing to comply with three
mandatory tests within a 12-month period. She vehemently protested against the
accusation, asserting her innocence.
Amusan,
while requesting privacy from the media, expressed her determination to defend
her reputation as a clean athlete. She is determined to clear her name and
hopes to participate in this year’s World Championships, where she aims to
defend her 100m hurdles title and the world record she set at the previous
World Championships held in Oregon, USA.
If
found guilty, Amusan could face a minimum suspension of two years, the duration
depending on the severity of the violation she is deemed to have committed.
