Nigerian comedian, Bright Okpocha, widely known as Basketmouth, has taken a significant step towards mending fences with fellow comedian AY Makun. Basketmouth publicly extended an invitation to AY to attend his upcoming concert in Lagos, signaling an end to their 17-year-long feud.
In a recent interview with Arise TV, Basketmouth addressed the ongoing reconciliation, stating that he had sent AY a ticket for the event. However, he clarified that AY would not be performing or making a cameo appearance on stage during the concert at the Eko Hotel & Suites, scheduled for the same night. Basketmouth emphasized that the program had already been meticulously scripted.
While responding to the anticipation of AY’s performance, Basketmouth stated, “AY is not on the bill to perform, but he has got a ticket. He’s attending. I sent him his ticket a few days ago.” He further explained the intricacies of the concert’s design, highlighting that the show was scheduled for three hours and had a predetermined flow. The production team, having recently arrived in the country, had already finalized the set and timing.
Basketmouth acknowledged the curiosity surrounding the involvement of other comedians in the concert, mentioning that Bovi would be introducing him, and comedians like Senator, Dan The Humorous, and Aproko from Abuja were part of the performing lineup. Additionally, comedians from Ghana were expected to contribute to the entertainment.
The move to reconcile with AY and extend the invitation demonstrates Basketmouth’s commitment to fostering unity within the comedy industry, offering an olive branch after years of publicized disagreements. Despite the resolution, the concert’s pre-planned nature and recording for television left little room for impromptu performances. The interview provided insights into the careful planning and precision behind Basketmouth’s much-anticipated event.
