Nigerian music star Ayodeji Balogun, professionally known as Wizkid, has etched his name into global music history after becoming the first African artist to surpass 10 billion streams on Spotify.
Latest figures released in January 2026 place Wizkid at the top of Africa’s most-streamed artists on the platform, cementing his status as one of the continent’s most influential musical exports. He leads a list dominated by African stars, with Burna Boy following on over 9.5 billion streams, Rema recording about 5.6 billion, and Tems exceeding 4.4 billion streams.
South African singer Tyla has amassed approximately 3.7 billion streams, while Nigerian pop star Ayra Starr follows closely with about 3.3 billion streams.
Wizkid’s streaming success is attributed to more than a decade of hit releases and high-profile collaborations. Drake’s global smash hit One Dance, on which Wizkid featured, accounts for nearly 4 billion streams, while his Afrobeats anthem Essence has contributed over 334 million streams.
His third studio album, Made In Lagos Deluxe, stands as his most successful project on Spotify, having crossed the one billion-stream mark. As a lead artist, Essence featuring Tems remains Wizkid’s most-streamed track on the platform, with more than 333 million streams.
In related streaming milestones, American pop star Billie Eilish has also set a new Spotify record. Her song Birds Of A Feather has surpassed Dance Monkey by Tones and I to become the most-streamed solo song by a female artist in Spotify’s history.
Birds Of A Feather recently hit 3.37 billion streams, overtaking Dance Monkey, which currently stands at 3.3 billion streams.
