Wizkid, the renowned Afrobeats singer, has revealed his
reasons for abstaining from political
During a recent interview with Evening Standard UK, Wizkid
shared that he rarely delves into political topics during interviews because he
believes it holds little relevance for the average Nigerian. According to him,
the people’s primary concerns lie in fulfilling their basic needs, such as food
and sustenance, and they seem disinterested in anything beyond that.
“I prefer not to speak about Nigerian politicians,”
Wizkid remarked. “Most people on the streets are focused on themselves and
their daily struggles to survive. They hardly care about anything else.”
With an immense fanbase and numerous awards and accolades to
his name, Wizkid has cemented his position as a leading figure in the African
music industry. Recently, he teased his fans with news of an upcoming album,
building anticipation for yet another remarkable musical endeavor. Moreover,
his headline appearance at the prestigious Glastonbury Festival in the UK
further solidified his status as a global icon.
Last year, in November 2022, Wizkid released his fifth album,
aptly titled ‘More Love, Less Ego.’ He explained that the album’s essence,
encapsulated in the phrase ‘More Love Less Ego,’ reflects a progression in his
life and music. The previous album, ‘Made in Lagos,’ resonates deeply with his
roots and origin.
In the spirit of celebrating the album’s success, Wizkid had
announced the MILLE tour in January. However, unforeseen logistical
circumstances led to the tour’s postponement in March, disappointing his eager
fans momentarily. Nonetheless, they continue to eagerly await the rescheduled
tour dates.
As Wizkid’s musical journey continues to reach new heights,
he remains steadfast in keeping his focus on the music and the happiness it
brings to his audience, preferring to leave political debates aside in favor of
connecting through the universal language of music.
