Obinna Simon, widely recognized as MC Tagwaye, an acclaimed entertainer, businessman, and youth leader, has officially severed ties with the All Progressives Congress (APC) and aligned himself with the Social Democratic Party (SDP). His decision follows dissatisfaction with APC’s internal structure and lack of recognition for loyal members.
In a statement released on Friday, MC Tagwaye articulated his reasons for the departure, emphasizing that the APC had strayed from its founding principles. He criticized the party’s flawed reward system, which he claims fails to honor dedication and loyalty.
“This decisive move is born out of my deep-seated conviction that the APC has deviated from its original ideals. The party’s reward system does not honor loyalty, and its leadership structure is dominated by a few power brokers who disregard the voices and aspirations of the majority,” MC Tagwaye stated.
He further condemned the erosion of internal democracy within the APC, asserting that decision-making has been monopolized by a select few, effectively marginalizing the majority of party members.
In contrast, MC Tagwaye praised the SDP as a “beacon of hope” for Nigerians, lauding its commitment to youth inclusion, transparency, accountability, and genuine internal democracy.
“I have made the bold decision to resign from the APC and join the SDP, a party that truly represents the interests of the people. I encourage all Nigerians who share my vision to join me. Together, we can build a better future for ourselves, our children, and our great nation,” he declared.
The entertainer and businessman formally tendered his resignation to his APC ward chairman, signaling the beginning of his new political journey within the SDP.
MC Tagwaye’s defection is seen as a significant blow to the APC, particularly as he played a notable role in the party’s presidential campaign for the 2023 elections. His move is expected to bolster SDP’s profile and potentially attract other dissatisfied APC members seeking a more democratic platform.
