Renowned clergyman and Senior Pastor of House on the Rock Church, Pastor Paul Adefarasin, has been granted bail by the Lagos State Police Command after voluntarily submitting himself for questioning over a viral video that raised public concern.
The footage, which made rounds on social media over the weekend, showed the pastor allegedly brandishing what appeared to be a firearm during a heated exchange with another road user. The incident sparked widespread speculation and concern, prompting the police to initiate an inquiry.
In a statement posted on the official X (formerly Twitter) page of the Lagos Police Command, Public Relations Officer CSP Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed that Pastor Adefarasin reported to the command headquarters on Tuesday, where he was interrogated and provided a cautionary statement to investigators.
Hundeyin clarified that the item seen in the video was not a lethal weapon or firearm, but rather a stun gun, which, while non-lethal, is classified as a prohibited anti-riot device under Nigerian law.
“Pastor Paul Adefarasin, who turned himself in today at the Lagos State Police Command over a viral video where he was seen holding a gun-like object against another road user, was interrogated and he volunteered a cautionary statement to police investigators,” the statement read.
“What was recovered from him… is a stun gun, which is a prohibited anti-riot equipment.”
The police spokesperson further noted that the investigation is still ongoing, and while bail has been granted, the pastor may be called in for additional questioning as needed.
Legal experts say possession or use of prohibited devices, even if non-lethal, may attract regulatory consequences, especially when used in public settings that can incite fear or confusion.
As the investigation progresses, members of the public and church followers await further clarification from both Pastor Adefarasin’s legal team and the Lagos State authorities regarding any potential charges or penalties.
House on the Rock Church has not issued an official statement on the incident at the time of filing this report.
