Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday praised U.S. President Donald Trump for authorizing airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, calling the move a “bold and historic” decision that could reshape the future of the Middle East.
In a televised address following the U.S. announcement, Netanyahu described the coordinated strikes as a defining moment for global security.
“Congratulations President Trump. Your bold decision to target Iran’s nuclear facilities with the awesome and righteous might of the United States will change history,” Netanyahu said.
According to the Israeli leader, the U.S. military strikes on three key Iranian sites—including the Fordo nuclear enrichment plant, Natanz, and Isfahan—represent a turning point in the longstanding standoff over Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
“President Trump and I often say, peace through strength. First comes strength, then comes peace,” Netanyahu added, expressing gratitude for what he termed a “pivot of history” orchestrated by Washington in collaboration with Israel.
In a separate statement released by his office, Netanyahu confirmed that the attacks were executed in coordination with Israel and suggested that they delivered on longstanding promises to dismantle Iran’s nuclear infrastructure.
Earlier in the day, Trump took to his social media platform to announce the airstrikes, stating that American forces had joined their Israeli counterparts in launching targeted assaults against Iranian nuclear sites. The announcement followed days of deliberation within Trump’s camp over the scope and timing of U.S. military involvement.
The joint military operation comes after weeks of escalating tensions between Tehran and Tel Aviv, marked by a series of tit-for-tat strikes. Israel began its campaign on June 13, claiming that Iran was on the brink of developing a nuclear weapon—an allegation Tehran strongly denies.
While full details of the damage inflicted by the strikes remain unclear, initial reports suggest that Iran’s key enrichment facilities were severely impacted. Iranian officials have yet to issue a formal statement, though state media confirmed “foreign aggression” had targeted strategic infrastructure.
Analysts say the strikes could have far-reaching geopolitical consequences, potentially drawing in regional powers and prompting retaliatory action from Iran or its allies.
Meanwhile, Netanyahu reiterated Israel’s commitment to regional peace, stating that this show of force was necessary to curb what he called “the existential threat posed by a nuclear Iran.”
The international community remains on edge, with global leaders expected to respond in the coming days amid fears of broader conflict across the Middle East.
