Former President Goodluck Jonathan has extended heartfelt congratulations to former Vice President Mohammed Namadi Sambo on his turbanning as the Sardaunan Zazzau, a prestigious traditional title conferred by the Emir of Zazzau, Ambassador Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli.
In a goodwill message shared on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account on Saturday, Jonathan described the honour as “well-deserved,” commending Sambo for his service to the nation and urging him to continue promoting peace and unity across Nigeria.
“I am pleased to celebrate my dear brother, Mohammed Namadi Sambo, on his turbanning as the Sardaunan Zazzau. May this new role deepen your dedication to peace, progress, and development in our country,” Jonathan wrote.
The turbanning ceremony, held at the Emir’s Palace in Zaria, drew a large crowd of dignitaries, political leaders, and traditional rulers from across the country, who came to honour Sambo’s contributions to the Zazzau Emirate and national development.
The title “Sardauna,” which symbolizes leadership, wisdom, and service to the community, is among the most revered titles in Northern Nigeria. It reflects Sambo’s influence and his longstanding commitment to the welfare of his people.
Speaking after the ceremony, associates and community leaders described the honour as a recognition of Sambo’s legacy of public service, humility, and bridge-building across political and ethnic divides.
Sambo, who served as Vice President from 2010 to 2015 under Jonathan’s administration, has remained a respected figure in both political and traditional circles. His turbanning marks a continuation of his leadership journey, this time within the traditional institution — a platform Jonathan said could further foster dialogue, peace, and unity in the country.
The event concluded with cultural displays, prayers, and tributes celebrating Sambo’s new role as the Sardaunan Zazzau, a position expected to deepen his engagement in promoting harmony and community development in Kaduna State and beyond.
