The Nigeria Democratic Congress has concluded the sale of Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms for its 2027 presidential primary, with indications that former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi is the only aspirant to obtain the forms.
Party sources disclosed that Obi, who previously served as governor of Anambra State, was the sole contender for the presidential ticket as the deadline for the purchase of forms officially closed.
In a statement issued by the party’s National Secretary, Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu, the NDC announced an extension of the deadline for aspirants seeking other elective offices.
According to the statement, the deadline for governorship, Senate, House of Representatives and State House of Assembly aspirants to obtain Expression of Interest Forms has been moved from May 17 to midnight of May 24, 2026.
The party clarified, however, that the presidential nomination process had officially closed with no extension granted.
The NDC timetable showed that screening of aspirants who successfully purchased and completed their forms would begin on May 19 and end on May 26, 2026.
It also stated that the collection and submission of Nomination Forms for aspirants cleared during screening would commence on May 20 and conclude on May 26.
The party warned that no additional extension would be approved beyond the new deadline and urged all aspirants to comply strictly with the established procedures and timelines.
Aspirants were directed to appear before screening and pre-qualification panels with necessary documents, including educational certificates, voter’s cards, passport photographs, declaration of age documents, curriculum vitae and valid NDC membership cards.
The NDC further stated that aspirants would be assessed based on competence, character, local political considerations and the wishes of the electorate.
The party also instructed its Screening Committee to consider affirmative action policies for women, youths and persons living with disabilities during the exercise.
With the development, Obi, who recently defected from the African Democratic Congress to the Nigeria Democratic Congress, is expected to emerge as the party’s consensus presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.
