President
Bola Tinubu has instructed the Central Bank of Nigeria to impose new
sanctions
on individuals and entities linked to and engaged with the military junta in
Niger Republic.
During
a press briefing on Tuesday, Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to the
President on Media and Public Affairs, revealed that these sanctions are in
alignment with the financial measures already imposed on the Niger Republic’s
military junta by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) heads
of state.
Ngelale
mentioned that while no course of action has been ruled out, it is anticipated
that substantial decisions will be reached by the consortium during the
forthcoming extraordinary session on Thursday in Abuja.
“Tinubu’s
spokesperson, Ajuri,” affirmed, “No possibilities have been
disregarded,” yet both Tinubu and other leaders from West Africa prefer
diplomatic solutions.”
