Justice Chima Centus (CC) Nweze, a prominent figure in the Supreme
Court of Nigeria,
has been reported to have passed away.
As per the available information, Justice Nweze, aged 64,
breathed his last on a Sunday. However, the Supreme Court is yet to officially
confirm this sad news.
Notably, in 2020, Justice Nweze rendered a dissenting
judgement that declared Emeka Ihedioha of the People Democratic Party (PDP) as
the winner of the 2019 Governorship election in Imo State. This decision
stirred controversy at the time.
In another significant ruling, Justice Nweze was part of a
split judgement, with three justices supporting and two opposing, which
pronounced then Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, as the authentic candidate of
the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Yobe North Senatorial District during
the 25 February general election.
Hailing from Obollo in Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu
State, Justice Nweze was born on September 25, 1958.
In 2014, the administration of Former President Goodluck
Jonathan approved the recommendation made by the National Judicial Council
(NJC), leading to Justice Nweze’s appointment to the esteemed position in the
Supreme Court. His contributions and legacy in the Nigerian judicial system
will be remembered.
