In an optimistic and reassuring address to Nigerians residing
in Russia, Vice President
Kashim Shettima conveyed a message of hope and
promise for the future of Nigeria under the leadership of President Bola
Tinubu. The statement, issued by Mr. Olusola Abiola, the Director of
Information in the Vice President’s office, highlighted the event that took
place in St. Petersburg at a forum with members of the Nigerian community.
Senator Shettima acknowledged the concerns raised by the
Nigerian community and offered his assurance that significant positive changes
were on the horizon for the country. With utmost confidence and a sense of
responsibility, he declared his faith in the capacity and commitment of
President Tinubu to lead Nigeria towards a prosperous future.
The Vice President also shed light on the administration’s
efforts to revitalize the economy. During the Africa-Russia Summit, they
pursued the completion of the Ajaokuta Steel Complex and the revival of the
Aluminium Smelter Company of Nigeria (ALSCON). Senator Shettima emphasized the
crucial role of a vibrant steel industry in a nation’s industrial development
and expressed certainty that President Tinubu would bring the Ajaokuta project
to fruition. He assured the audience that Ajaokuta would be one of President
Tinubu’s significant legacies to the Nigerian people.
With the goal of transforming Nigeria, the VP asserted that
the Tinubu administration would harness the abundant human and material
resources available in the country. He highlighted Nigeria’s potential as a
land of opportunities, with a large landmass and a vibrant young population.
The Vice President emphasized the importance of digital skills, announcing a
target to train one million Nigerians in digital technology to meet the growing
demand for skilled talent globally.
Senator Shettima expressed unwavering confidence in President
Tinubu’s ability to transform Nigeria. He pointed to the President’s impressive
track record as the former governor of Lagos State, which demonstrated his
capacity to inspire development across various sectors. According to the Vice
President, President Tinubu’s ascent to leadership was no coincidence; it was a
result of his profound belief in the Nigeria project.
Praising the maturity and positive conduct of Nigerians
living in Russia, Senator Shettima lauded their impressive achievements. He
also commended the initiatives of the Tinubu administration to actively engage
with the Russian government, aiming to strengthen relations between Nigeria and
Russia.
The forum saw the presence of notable figures, including
Nigeria’s Ambassador to Russia, Amb Shehu Abdullahi, Permanent Secretaries from
key ministries, and representatives from the Nigerian community in Russia, such
as Dr. Maurice Okoli, the President of the Nigerian Community, and Mr. Sampson
Uwem, the Chairman of Nigerians in Diaspora (NIDO), Russia.
