In a heartfelt tale of shattered dreams and dashed hopes, the parents of Phyna, the 2022 BBNaija ‘Level Up’ edition grand prize winner, find themselves in a precarious situation as their daughter appears to have abandoned them following her big win.
Phyna’s victory in the popular reality TV show initially brought immense joy to her parents, who believed that their days of suffering were finally over, and they would reap the benefits of their daughter’s newfound wealth. However, little did they know that their elation would be short-lived.
On the day Phyna was crowned the winner of BBNaija season 7 in 2022, her parents celebrated with her at the grand finale venue, posing for photos and cherishing the moment while anticipating a brighter future. Sadly, this would be the last time they saw their daughter.
Phyna seemingly disappeared without a trace as soon as she received her N100 million prize money, leaving her parents bewildered and anxious for her return. Despite her active presence on social media, flaunting a life of luxury and opulence, Phyna has neither reached out to nor answered her parents’ calls.
Mr. Felix Otabor, Phyna’s father and a professional hearse driver, shared his heart-wrenching ordeal, expressing his disappointment that his daughter had abandoned their family. He revealed that Phyna had urged him to sell all his old cars and promised to change his life with her newfound wealth. However, she never fulfilled this promise, leaving Mr. Otabor without a vehicle and unable to continue his profession.
“I sold all my four cars because at the time my daughter won the show. I thought that God had finally answered our prayers,” Mr. Otabor explained. “I stopped doing my business because I had no car again. And my neighbors thought I was either stingy or pretending as if my daughter just won a N100 million grand prize.”
Desperate for assistance, the 68-year-old ambulance car driver is now seeking someone who can provide him with a car on a hire-purchase basis. He lamented, “I need help; it has come to that point. I don’t want to die in silence.”
When asked why his daughter was ignoring them, Mr. Otabor admitted he had no answers and was uncertain about her whereabouts. He mentioned that he only saw her on Facebook or Instagram when she shared new photos on these platforms.
Our attempts to reach Phyna for comment were met with initial resistance. She claimed to be busy with an on-site shoot but eventually returned our calls, although the conversation quickly turned contentious. When asked about her relationship with her parents, she abruptly ended the call and did not respond to subsequent attempts to contact her.
The heartbreaking story of Phyna’s family serves as a stark reminder of the impact sudden fame and fortune can have on relationships, leaving loved ones behind in the pursuit of personal success and affluence.
