Access Holdings Plc, in response to the tragic loss of its Group Chief Executive Officer, Herbert Wigwe, has appointed Bolaji Agbede as the Acting Group CEO of the holding company.
The appointment comes in the wake of the devastating helicopter crash in the United States on Friday, which claimed the lives of Mr. Wigwe, his wife, son, and former Nigeria Exchange Group chairman, Abimbola Ogunbanjo.
In a statement released on Monday, Access Holdings Plc announced the appointment of Ms. Bolaji Agbede as the Acting Group CEO. Ms. Agbede brings nearly three decades of professional experience in banking and business consultancy services, having joined Access Bank in 2003 as an Assistant General.
Throughout her tenure at the bank, Ms. Agbede has held various leadership positions, including Head of Group Human Resources from 2010 to 2022. In 2022, she was appointed the company’s founding Executive Director of Business Support, a role she held until her recent appointment as Acting CEO.
Ms. Agbede holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics and Statistics from the University of Lagos, as well as a Master of Business Administration Degree from Cranfield University UK in 2002. She is also a member of the Chartered Institute of Management UK and the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria.
The appointment of Ms. Agbede is pending approval from the Central Bank of Nigeria and reflects the company’s commitment to robust succession planning practices. Abubakar Jimoh, chairman of Access Holdings Plc, expressed confidence in Ms. Agbede’s leadership abilities, citing her extensive experience and understanding of the company’s culture.
“We are strongly convinced that Ms. Agbede, being the company’s most senior executive, with exceptionally rich, professional, and leadership experience, would provide the much-needed leadership to steer the company towards the attainment of its strategic vision,” stated Mr. Jimoh.
Access Holdings Plc remains focused on its strategic vision of building a globally connected community and ecosystem, inspired by Africa for the world.
