Jose Peseiro, the former coach of the Super Eagles, has finally spoken out about his future in football following the expiration of his contract with the Nigerian national team after the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. Peseiro, who led the Super Eagles to a commendable second-place finish at the AFCON tournament held in Cote d’Ivoire, has been the subject of speculation regarding coaching positions with both Algeria and Tunisia.
The 63-year-old Portuguese coach revealed that despite receiving numerous offers, he is currently focused on taking a much-needed break from coaching. “I told everyone to come back at the end of the month. What is certain is that I want to continue coaching and I need to choose wisely,” he shared in an exclusive interview with Goal.
Peseiro acknowledged that he has received several offers, stating, “I received a lot of options, and a lot of contacts from national teams or clubs.” However, he remained tight-lipped about the specific details, only hinting that the number of offers ranged from “5, 6 or 7.”
Expressing his need for rest and contemplation, Peseiro emphasized the importance of taking a step back before making any decisions about his future in coaching. “I let them all know that I need to rest and that when my contract expires I will talk about it and start thinking about other projects. And decide my future. For now, I need to take a break and be calm,” he explained.
Despite his hiatus from coaching, Peseiro remains open to considering future opportunities, stating, “But I listen to the proposals and projects that are offered to me. And I evaluate whether I like it or not.” With his vast experience and successful track record, Peseiro’s next move in the world of football will undoubtedly be eagerly anticipated by fans and stakeholders alike.
