Controversial crossdresser, Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, has been placed in a cell with male inmates at the Ikoyi Custodial Centre after receiving a six-month prison sentence for naira abuse. This was disclosed by sources at the centre who spoke with PUNCH Metro.
Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court in Lagos handed down the sentence on Friday, April 12, 2024. The judge emphasized that the judgment should serve as a deterrent to others engaged in naira abuse.
Upon his admission to the Custodial Centre following the court’s decision, Bobrisky was treated in accordance with standard procedures applied to all inmates. An official at the facility, speaking anonymously due to the sensitivity of the issue, confirmed that Bobrisky underwent a medical examination upon arrival.
The official stated, “Bobrisky publicly identifies as male, and court proceedings are a matter of public record. Like all new inmates, he was medically examined during admission, which revealed no alteration in gender or genital features. His male biological characteristics remain unchanged.”
Following the examination, Bobrisky was assigned a cell and a bed space, adhering to the usual allocation process for inmates. The official likened the centre’s procedures to those of a boarding school, where personal belongings are issued by the housemaster.
The official further disclosed that Bobrisky has been compliant with the centre’s rules and regulations, attending classes and meals punctually. “He has been conducting himself like any other inmate since his arrival,” the official added.
Addressing concerns about Bobrisky’s safety, the official stressed that the centre does not tolerate any form of inmate abuse. “He receives no preferential treatment and is subject to the same rules as everyone else. Any inmate attempting to harm him will face legal consequences,” the official warned.
However, when approached for comments, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS), Rotimi Oladokun, declined, stating, “I have no comment.”
