Two Nigerian students have distinguished themselves by ranking among the top 30 students in the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction Management (AEC) sector in New Zealand. Angela Odiete and Oludolapo Olanrewaju have also been recognized as part of the top 10 students in construction management within the country.
Their achievements have earned them an all-expense-paid trip to Christchurch, New Zealand, where they will participate in a three-day client brief challenge. During this competition, students will be tasked with developing innovative solutions to address industry issues, with the winning team set to receive a $10,000 prize.
In an announcement made on LinkedIn, the organizers, Brandz, expressed their enthusiasm: “We are excited to announce the following 30 students have been selected to compete in the 2024 edition of ArchEngBuild. The students will compete in teams to solve a real-world building and construction challenge – with a winning prize of $10,000.”
The selected students hail from nine tertiary institutions across New Zealand. The institutions represented include the University of Canterbury, Unitec, The University of Auckland, Otago Polytechnic | Te Pūkenga, Auckland University of Technology, Ara Institute of Canterbury, Victoria University of Wellington, WelTec, and the Western Institute of Technology at Taranaki.
Upon their arrival in Ōtautahi Christchurch, the students engaged with industry experts and toured the Tūranga Central Library. They are now hard at work in teams of three, tackling the real-world building and construction challenge presented to them.
This competition not only showcases the talents of these students but also emphasizes the importance of innovative thinking in solving industry challenges. The participation of Angela Odiete and Oludolapo Olanrewaju highlights the global competitiveness of Nigerian students in the AEC sector.
