Musiliudeen Akinremi, a two-term member of the House of Representatives representing Ibadan North Federal Constituency in Oyo State, has passed away at the age of 51. Popularly known as Jagaban, Akinremi’s death was reported on Wednesday, though the exact details remain unclear.
Akin Adewale, a close political associate, confirmed the news on his social media platform, X, writing, “We lost Hon. Musiliu Olaide Akinremi representing Ibadan North Federal Constituency in the NASS. This is really sad. Ah, God.”
House of Representatives spokesman, Akin Rotimi, also confirmed Akinremi’s death in a statement, quoting Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, who expressed deep sorrow over the loss. Akinremi served as Chairman of the House Committee on Science Research Institutions and was known for his unwavering commitment to his constituency and the nation.
The statement highlighted Akinremi’s dedication as a public servant, noting his passion for service and deep understanding of his constituents’ needs, which earned him the affectionate title of ‘Jagaban.’ His advocacy for policies promoting social welfare, economic growth, and scientific research marked his legislative career. His active participation in legislative debates and committee activities underscored his commitment and hard work.
“Akinremi was as much a grassroots politician as he was an astute statesman,” the statement read. “He leveraged his goodwill and network to bring positive impacts to his constituency, building friendships and fostering camaraderie within the House.”
Speaker Abbas expressed his profound sadness, describing Akinremi’s death as a significant loss to the House. “Rep. Akinremi Olaide Adewale was a beacon of dedication and service. His contributions to our legislative work, especially in the area of science and research, were invaluable. His passing is a great loss to the House, his constituency, and the nation. We will miss his leadership, wisdom, and the unique passion he brought to his work,” Abbas said.
