Fellow Nigerians,
As we step into 2025, I extend my warmest wishes for a happy and prosperous New Year to all Nigerians. May this year bring you abundant joy, success, and good health.
The arrival of a new year is always a time for renewed hope and aspirations. By the grace of God, 2025 holds great promise, and together, we will work to fulfill our collective desires for a better Nigeria.
While 2024 posed significant challenges for many citizens and households, I am confident that brighter days lie ahead.
Economic Progress and Goals
Economic indicators point to an encouraging outlook for our nation. Fuel prices have gradually decreased, and we achieved foreign trade surpluses in three consecutive quarters. Our foreign reserves have grown, and the Naira has strengthened against the US dollar, bringing greater stability to our economy.
The remarkable growth of the stock market has generated trillions of Naira in wealth, while the surge in foreign investment reflects renewed confidence in our nation. However, I acknowledge that the high cost of food and essential drugs remains a pressing concern for many Nigerian households.
In 2025, our government is committed to intensifying efforts to lower these costs. We will boost food production and promote local manufacturing of essential drugs and medical supplies. Our aim is to reduce inflation from its current high of 34.6% to 15%. With diligent work and God’s guidance, we will achieve this goal and provide relief to all Nigerians.
Additionally, we will enhance access to credit for individuals and critical economic sectors to stimulate growth. To this end, the federal government will establish the National Credit Guarantee Company by the second quarter of 2025. This partnership will involve government institutions such as the Bank of Industry, the Nigerian Sovereign Investment Agency, and private-sector stakeholders.
The initiative will strengthen the financial system, expand credit access, and support underrepresented groups such as women and youth. This will drive economic growth, re-industrialization, and improved living standards for all Nigerians.
National Unity and Citizenship
On a personal note, I thank you for placing your trust in me as your President. Your confidence humbles me, and I am committed to serving you with diligence and dedication.
As we pursue our goal of a one-trillion-dollar economy, I urge all Nigerians to remain focused and united. Let us reject distractions based on politics, ethnicity, region, or religion. Together, we are on the right path to building a great Nigeria that works for everyone.
To achieve our national objectives, we must also strive to be better citizens, demonstrating unwavering devotion and allegiance to our country. Citizens’ moral rectitude and faith in Nigeria are critical to the success of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
In 2025, we will launch the National Identity Project to promote shared ethical principles, values, and beliefs. The National Values Charter, already approved by the Federal Executive Council, will be unveiled in the first quarter of the year. This initiative will foster patriotism, inspire unity, and encourage citizens to rally around our shared national goals.
The Youth Confab, scheduled for the first quarter of 2025, underscores our commitment to youth inclusiveness as vital nation-builders. The Ministry of Youth will soon announce the selection process for representatives.
Collaborative Leadership
I call on our governors and local council chairpersons to work closely with the federal government to seize emerging opportunities in agriculture, livestock, and tax reforms. I commend governors who have embraced the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) initiative and those adopting electric vehicles as part of our energy transition efforts. The federal government stands ready to provide all necessary support to states.
A Message of Gratitude and Determination
To all Nigerians, your sacrifices over the past 19 months have not been in vain. I assure you they will yield dividends in the months ahead. Together, let us remain steadfast in our commitment to nation-building.
The New Year will bring us closer to the bright future we all desire—a Nigeria of unity, progress, and shared prosperity.
God bless you all, and may God bless our beloved nation, Nigeria.
Happy New Year and a prosperous 2025!
Bola Ahmed Tinubu
President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria
