Tragedy struck the Federal Capital Territory over the weekend as suspected kidnappers brutally murdered a prominent veterinary doctor, Dr. Ifeanyi Ogbu, and abducted his three children during a late-night attack on his residence in the Kubwa district.
Dr. Ogbu, a former chairman of the Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA), FCT Chapter, was reportedly taken alongside his children when gunmen stormed his home along the Kubwa–Kaduna Road on Friday night.
According to reports, the assailants invaded the property under the cover of darkness, whisking away the doctor and his children. Hours later, his lifeless body was found dumped by the roadside, sparking outrage and fear among residents of the area.
The tragic development was confirmed by Andrew Gabriel Ikechukwu, a colleague and friend of the deceased, who took to Facebook to announce the killing and appeal for divine intervention.
“Dr. Ifeanyi Ogbu, the immediate past chairman of the NVMA FCT chapter, who was kidnapped alongside his three children from his home in Kubwa Abuja, was found dead. The three children are yet to be released. May God please intervene,” Ikechukwu wrote.
Dr. Ogbu was widely regarded as a dedicated professional and respected figure in the veterinary field. His untimely death has sent shockwaves through the veterinary community and beyond.
“This is a devastating loss — not only to his family but to the entire veterinary profession in Nigeria,” said one of his colleagues, who described him as a passionate advocate for animal health and welfare.
The doctor is survived by his wife, who is currently nursing a child, and other grieving family members. The whereabouts of his abducted children remain unknown as security agencies intensify efforts to rescue them.
Police authorities have yet to release an official statement on the incident. Attempts to reach the FCT Police Command for comments were unsuccessful, as calls and messages went unanswered. However, sources say an investigation has been launched, and search efforts for the abducted children are ongoing.
The chilling attack has once again raised concerns over the rising wave of kidnappings and violent crimes in the Federal Capital Territory, with residents calling for urgent and decisive action from security agencies to stem the tide.
