In a recent revelation on his Instagram page, Uche Maduagwu,
a controversial Nollywood actor, boldly
claimed that 95 percent of Nigerian
male celebrities are bisexual. The self-proclaimed gay man fearlessly expressed
his perspective, cautioning those who judged and ridiculed his sexuality to
refrain from doing so. He emphasized that he is not the only bisexual male
celebrity in Nigeria, shedding light on what he believes to be a prevalent
reality in the entertainment industry.
“Don’t judge me; you are not God,” Maduagwu
proclaimed. “I am attracted to both women and men, and 95 percent of
Nigerian male celebrities engage in the same. This applies to both married and
single individuals. I reiterate that 95 percent of male celebrities in Nigeria
are attracted to both genders. The truth can be bitter, but it represents the
beautiful reality.”
To support his claim, Maduagwu recounted an incident where a
male celebrity, who had joined others in mocking him at an event in Ikoyi, was
discovered to also engage in relationships with both men and women. This
discovery prompted him to question the double standards prevalent in society.
Maduagwu’s bold statement has sparked a wave of discussion
and controversy within the Nigerian entertainment industry. While some may
dismiss his claims as unsubstantiated, others believe it sheds light on an
aspect of celebrities’ personal lives that has long been kept hidden or
underplayed. The assertion has stirred debates about acceptance, inclusivity,
and the often-silent presence of bisexuality in Nigerian society.
As the news spreads, various stakeholders within the industry
have voiced their opinions, with some supporting Maduagwu’s courage in sharing
his truth and challenging societal norms. Others, however, have criticized his
claim as sensationalist and lacking in evidence. The controversy surrounding
the issue has ignited a broader conversation about sexual orientation and
acceptance within the Nigerian entertainment industry and society at large.
While Maduagwu’s statement has undoubtedly fueled curiosity
and debate, only time will reveal the extent to which his assertion holds true
and the subsequent impact it may have on the perception and acceptance of
bisexuality within Nigeria’s celebrity culture.
