Milan, Italy – Spanish footballer Álvaro Morata has candidly shared how his recent transfer to AC Milan played a significant role in the breakdown of his marriage to Alice Campello. The 31-year-old striker, who joined AC Milan for €13 million just weeks after helping Spain secure the Euro 2024 title, revealed that the move led to irreconcilable differences with his wife, ultimately resulting in their separation.
Morata and Campello, who were married in a picturesque ceremony in Venice in 2017, announced their split on August 12 via an Instagram post. The couple’s decision to part ways has shocked fans, as they were often seen as one of football’s most glamorous and stable couples.
In a heartfelt interview with De Corazón, Morata explained that his wife, Alice, was not willing to relocate from Spain to Italy, preferring the stability of staying in her home country. This disagreement over where to live became a central issue in their marriage. “Alice wanted to remain in Spain and wasn’t willing to move again,” Morata said. “Despite our differing views, we maintain a strong relationship for the sake of our four children. There are no regrets.”
Morata also addressed swirling rumors of infidelity, vehemently denying any wrongdoing. “I am devastated, but I swear I never cheated on her. She’s the most important woman in my life. I am tired of people saying I was unfaithful to Alice. I didn’t even attend the national team party to avoid such rumors,” he stated, adding that his decision to stay silent publicly until now was out of respect for his estranged wife and their family.
Alice Campello, in a separate interview with Spanish media outlet Marca, provided further insight into the challenges they faced. She cited post-partum depression following the birth of their fourth child and the stress of frequent relocations due to Morata’s football career as major factors in their separation. “We are two young people; we have both been immature when it comes to managing certain situations. There are many children, moments of instability from moving from one country to another. My post-partum depression has had an influence, and his too, which has not allowed us to manage certain situations between us,” Campello explained.
She also dismissed the infidelity rumors surrounding Morata, affirming that their love and respect for each other remain strong despite the separation. “We love each other infinitely; love does not end from one day to the next. We respect each other a lot, and nothing will change. It is what we both needed now, however, I know that Álvaro would kill for me,” Campello added.
The couple shares four children: twin sons Alessandro and Leonardo (born 2018), another son, Edoardo (born 2020), and a daughter, Bella (born 2023). Both Morata and Campello have emphasized their commitment to co-parenting and maintaining a positive relationship for the sake of their children, even as they navigate this difficult period in their lives.
