Nigerian-British boxing sensation Anthony Joshua has confirmed the date and venue for his upcoming fight, along with four potential opponents.
The former heavyweight champion revealed that his next bout is scheduled to take place at London’s iconic Wembley Stadium in September. This announcement follows his victorious match against Francis Ngannou in Saudi Arabia earlier this year.
Joshua disclosed that his next challenger will emerge from the Frank Warren and Eddie Hearn 5 vs 5 event slated for June 1, where Deontay Wilder is set to clash with Zhilei Zhang and Daniel Dubois will face Filip Hrgovic in Riyadh.
Speaking with talkSPORT, Joshua stated, “It’s gonna be in London, Wembley Stadium. This is what I’m being told. If that’s what [the Saudis] say, they normally back their word, so let’s go with that: Wembley, 20 or 21 September.”
He elaborated on the potential opponents, mentioning the June 1 event in Saudi Arabia and the lineup of matches, including Filip Hrgovic vs Daniel Dubois and Zhilei Zhang vs Deontay Wilder. Joshua indicated that based on performance, one of these contenders would likely be his next opponent.
He emphasized the importance of facing formidable opponents, echoing the sentiments of His Excellency Turki Al-Sheikh, who expressed a desire for Joshua to be remembered for taking on the best. Joshua expressed his agreement with this sentiment, affirming his commitment to delivering exciting fights for the fans.
Joshua also hinted at the fans’ anticipation for a showdown with Tyson Fury, indicating that discussions toward that end are underway.
