The Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption
Commission (PCACC) has announced the
results of a forensic analysis, confirming
that the controversial videos featuring former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje
were authentic and had not been tampered with.
In 2017, Daily Nigerian, an online publication, made public
several videos allegedly showing Ganduje engaging in the collection of
kickbacks from contractors. These videos created a significant uproar and
controversy surrounding the former governor.
During the ‘A One Day Public Dialogue on Anti-Corruption
Crusade in Kano’, Barrister Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado, the Chairman of the PCACC,
spoke on the matter. He revealed that after subjecting the videos to forensic
scrutiny, their authenticity had been established. This confirmation raised questions
about the conduct of the ex-governor and the validity of the allegations
against him.
Since the release of the incriminating footage, numerous
individuals have challenged the PCACC under Rimingado’s leadership, demanding
the commission to provide evidence either supporting or refuting the former
governor’s involvement in the alleged corruption.
Rimingado explained that the PCACC initiated an investigation
into the matter in 2018. However, the progress of the investigation was
hindered due to the fact that Ganduje, being the sitting governor at the time,
enjoyed immunity, which restricted the commission’s authority to take necessary
actions against him.
The confirmation of the videos’ authenticity by the PCACC
adds weight to the accusations made against ex-Governor Ganduje. It raises
further questions about accountability, governance, and the fight against
corruption in the state of Kano. The public’s demand for justice and the
resolution of this matter will continue to shape the discourse surrounding the
former governor’s alleged misconduct.
