Abuja, Nigeria – In a solemn expression of grief, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, has conveyed his condolences to the family of the late former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ghali Umar Na’Abba. The 65-year-old veteran politician passed away in Abuja on Wednesday morning after a prolonged battle with an undisclosed ailment, as confirmed by family sources.
In a tribute released by his Press Secretary, Edwin Olofu, Dr Ganduje eulogized Na’Abba as a seasoned politician and legislator whose commitment to the nation was unwavering. The late 8th Speaker, he noted, played a crucial role in enhancing the independence of the legislative arm of government during his tenure, even when faced with challenges from the executive.
“His rich experiences and doggedness, even in the face of the risk of impeachment, were contributory to whatever achievements we recorded at the National Assembly today. He diligently served Nigeria. His wit, intellect, diligence, and warm personality were legendary,” Ganduje stated.
The APC National Chairman acknowledged Na’Abba’s pivotal contributions to the political landscape, particularly his resilience during his tenure as Speaker, which significantly impacted the current state of the National Assembly. He called on Allah to grant the late politician Aljana Firdaus and prayed for strength and fortitude for Na’Abba’s family, the people of Kano State, and all Nigerians in coping with the loss.
Meanwhile, reports indicate that the funeral rites for the former Speaker will take place in Abuja later on Wednesday, following Islamic traditions. The nation mourns the passing of a political luminary, and tributes continue to pour in from various quarters in honor of Ghali Umar Na’Abba’s contributions to Nigerian politics.
