Lukman, a member of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the ruling All
Progressives Congress (APC), has taken legal action against the party’s
national chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, for allegedly violating the party’s
constitution. Lukman, who is also the party’s national vice chairman (North
West), has written an official letter to President Muhammadu Buhari and the
president-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, informing them of the situation.
In addition
to Adamu, who is the 2nd defendant in the case, the All Progressives Congress
(APC) is the 1st defendant, Senator Iviola Omisore (3rd defendant), and the
Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) (4th defendant).
Lukman has
requested the court to issue orders mandating the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd defendants
to immediately call for or cause to be held a meeting of the National Executive
Committee (NEC) of the APC. The meeting is intended to present the activities
of the party from the date of the last NEC meeting, which occurred on April 28,
2022, to the last meeting of the National Working Committee, which was held on
April 17, 2023.
He also
seeks an order mandating/directing the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Defendants to
immediately call for or cause to be called and held the meeting of the National
Executive Committee of the APC to present proposed guidelines and regulations
governing the conduct of elections for party offices at all levels and
procedures for selecting party candidates for elective offices, including the
selection and zoning of the leadership of the National Assembly to the members
of the NEC.
Furthermore,
Lukman is requesting an order mandating/directing the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd
defendants to immediately call for or cause to be held the meeting of the NEC
of the APC for the purpose of presenting the executive committee.
The legal
action taken by Lukman highlights the ongoing internal conflicts within the
APC, which has been marred by infighting and power struggles. The case will be
closely watched as it could have significant implications for the future
direction of the party and the upcoming elections.
