Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has promised fans that his team will “keep knocking” on the door of the Premier League title after narrowly missing out to Manchester City. Despite a 2-1 victory over Everton on the final day, City’s 3-1 win against West Ham secured their fourth consecutive title, leaving Arsenal as runners-up for the second straight season.
Reflecting on the season, Arteta acknowledged City’s dominance but remained optimistic about Arsenal’s future. “First of all, congratulations to Manchester City for winning the Premier League,” Arteta told SkySports. “Today brings mixed emotions. I’m incredibly proud of the staff and players who pushed every limit to try to win this league. Unfortunately, we came up a bit short.”
City’s consistent success, with six titles in the last seven years, underscores the challenge Arsenal faces. Arteta, who was Pep Guardiola’s assistant during City’s record-breaking 100-point season in 2017-18, understands the high standards required to dethrone them. “They took it away from us. It’s the second season. To win it, we have to be more determined, more ambitious, and have a lot of courage,” he said. “If we keep pushing every limit, we’ll get closer, and eventually, we will win it.”
Arteta emphasized that Arsenal is on the right path and knows what it takes to compete with City. “I was there when we did 100 points, so I know what it takes. We are on the right journey, and the evolution is happening quickly. We need to pull the teeth and bite into it because we want more.”
Arsenal’s remarkable form in 2024 has shown their potential, and Arteta is confident they can build on this season’s achievements to eventually overcome City’s dominance. “No-one has to explain what the level is because I was there four years every day. We are on the right trajectory, and now we need to really push because we want more,” Arteta concluded.
