Atiku Abubakar Slams Bola Tinubu Over Hardship, Insecurity

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has launched a fresh attack on the administration of President Bola Tinubu, declaring that Nigerians are becoming increasingly frustrated with what he described as propaganda-driven governance and worsening economic hardship.

In a statement issued on Friday through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku said the current administration had failed to deliver on its promises of “Renewed Hope,” insisting that citizens are now preparing to demand accountability through the ballot box.

According to the former vice president, the Tinubu administration’s three years in office have been marked by rising insecurity, deepening poverty, inflation, and economic decline rather than meaningful progress.

“At a time when government officials celebrate achievements through media campaigns and public relations efforts, ordinary Nigerians are battling hunger, unemployment, business collapse, and insecurity,” Atiku stated.

He argued that soaring food prices and the depreciation of the naira have severely reduced the purchasing power of citizens, while many small and medium-sized businesses have been forced to shut down due to harsh economic conditions.

Atiku also questioned the Federal Government’s borrowing pattern, citing reports that approximately N11.9 trillion was borrowed within nine months, while only about N3.1 trillion was reportedly allocated to capital projects.

“Nigerians deserve to know how the remaining funds were utilised,” he said.

The former presidential candidate further raised concerns over major infrastructure projects such as the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and the Badagry-Sokoto Highway, alleging that government contracts appeared concentrated among politically connected interests.

On security, Atiku described the resurgence of mass abductions and attacks on schools as evidence of a government that has failed to address the country’s growing insecurity challenges.

He referenced recent incidents involving the abduction of schoolchildren in Borno State and the kidnapping of pupils and teachers in Oyo State, describing them as tragic signs of leadership failure.

Atiku maintained that government claims of economic recovery and improved security were disconnected from the realities facing many Nigerians.

He warned against interpreting public patience as acceptance, insisting that citizens remain determined to demand change through democratic means.

The former vice president also disclosed that the African Democratic Congress would soon unveil a comprehensive policy framework focused on economic recovery, job creation, healthcare improvement, fiscal discipline, and security sector reforms ahead of future political engagements.
