Chief Olabode George, a former deputy National
Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party,
has expressed that he is too old to
seek appointment under any government. He has denied rumors suggesting that he
is vying for a position under President Bola Tinubu.
In an interview with Punch on Friday, George
clarified that he would be willing to recommend competent individuals from his
party if approached for such purposes. He emphasized that his decision to end
his feud with President Tinubu was not driven by a desire for personal gain or
favor, but rather to promote peace and as a gesture of respect for those who
mediated the matter on behalf of Tinubu.
George highlighted that senior indigenes of
Lagos State and a delegation from the All Progressives Congress approached him
to reconcile their longstanding differences and sought his support for the
Tinubu administration. At his age, George stated that he could not have asked
for anything more.
Addressing speculations about seeking an
appointment, George dismissed such claims, urging people to refrain from
baseless chatter. He emphasized that he was not interested in a job and was
more concerned about the welfare of the younger generation. Instead, he offered
to utilize his experience as a former party manager to identify and recommend
capable young individuals who could contribute to the development of the
country.
George explained that he refrained from
congratulating or visiting Tinubu at the villa due to the ongoing court battle
between his party, the PDP, and the outcome of the presidential election. He
believed that doing so would be a betrayal of his party.
