Borno Attack: Four Soldiers Killed, Five Injured as Troops Repel Boko Haram Assault in Ngamdu

Four soldiers have been confirmed dead and five others injured following a fierce attack by Boko Haram terrorists on a military post in Ngamdu, along the Damaturu–Maiduguri highway in Kaga Local Government Area of Borno State, early Friday morning.

The assault, which began around 2:30 a.m., saw the insurgents employ rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs), armed drones, and command-initiated improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in a coordinated attempt to overrun the base.

Confirming the incident, Lt. Col. Uba Sani, spokesperson for Operation Hadin Kai, said the troops responded swiftly and repelled the terrorists despite the intensity of the attack.

“Troops of Operation HADIN KAI successfully repelled a coordinated terrorist attack in the Ngamdu general area following a swift response by forces on ground and reinforcement elements from the 29 Task Force Brigade,” Sani stated.

He disclosed that while the soldiers suffered four fatalities and five injuries, the terrorists also recorded heavy casualties, with intelligence reports indicating at least 15 insurgents were killed and buried near Bula Wura, a village close to Wasaram.

“Despite the ferocity of the assault, our troops held their positions and responded with superior firepower, inflicting significant losses on the terrorists,” he said.

According to Sani, some military vehicles, including Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles and Gun Trucks (GTs), were damaged in the exchange. The terrorists also attempted to block reinforcements by planting multiple IEDs along the Ngamdu–Damaturu Main Supply Route (MSR).

The route was temporarily closed for clearance operations as military engineers neutralized three explosive-laden spots, allowing both military and civilian movements to resume later in the day.

Sani further revealed that troops were resupplied with essential logistics, including MRAP tyres and ammunition, to sustain ongoing counter-terror operations in the area.

Meanwhile, eyewitnesses confirmed a temporary gridlock along the highway during post-attack assessments.

A transport supervisor with Borno Express, Muktar Yahaya, said several of the company’s buses were stranded due to security checks.

“Many of our buses were stuck on the highway because of military operations after the attack. Vehicles were parked by the roadside, waiting for clearance,” he said.

The Nigerian Army has reaffirmed its commitment to restoring peace and stability in the region, stressing that sustained offensive operations will continue until all terrorist elements are neutralized.
