The ancient Olomu Kingdom in Ughelli South Local Government Area witnessed a historic transition today as renowned legal scholar and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Albert Akpomudje, was formally installed as the 14th Ohworode of Olomu Kingdom with the royal title Eyanvwien-Alaka I.
The coronation took place during a grand traditional ceremony held at Eyanvien Hall, Otorere, where Olorogun Philip Korobor Atuduhor, the Okpako r’Illorogun (oldest chief), performed the crowning ritual at exactly 9:56 a.m. The sacred installation was followed by a consecration by Archbishop Cyril Odotemu of the Bendel Province, accompanied by a ceremonial 21-gun salute.
The newly adopted royal title connects to the kingdom’s deep historical roots, signifying the lineage of Eyanvwien, first son of Alaka — a co-founder of the Olomu Kingdom.
Following the coronation, the king was escorted in a vibrant motorcade to Eyanvien Hall at Oviri Olomu, where an additional 14 cannon shots were fired to symbolize his status as the 14th monarch of the kingdom, before proceeding to his palace in Akperhe Olomu for an elaborate royal reception.
The enthronement followed the established rotational ascension among the three ruling houses, maintaining Olomu’s long-standing system of power transition. Traditional rites, cultural displays, drumming, and jubilation heightened the significance of the event, drawing dignitaries, government functionaries, and community stakeholders.
In his maiden royal address, Ohworode Akpomudje pledged to safeguard peace, strengthen cultural values, and promote sustainable community development, assuring collaboration with the elders, youth, and traditional council.
The memorable ceremony reaffirmed the kingdom’s rich heritage, unity, and cultural resilience as it enters a new phase under the leadership of its newly crowned monarch.
