In a bid to revamp their squad and address the striking woes that have plagued them this season, Chelsea is reportedly considering a move for Napoli star Victor Osimhen in the upcoming January transfer window. The 24-year-old Nigerian forward is said to be at the forefront of Todd Boehly’s transfer wishlist.
Currently sitting in 10th place in the Premier League, Chelsea is determined to make significant improvements following a lackluster performance in the previous season. Club officials believe that securing a top-tier striker will be pivotal in enhancing Mauricio Pochettino’s squad.
According to sources at talkSPORT, Chelsea has received indications that Osimhen might be available for a transfer in January. However, the Serie A champions, Napoli, are likely to demand a substantial £120 million for the prolific striker.
Since Boehly’s takeover in May 2022, Chelsea has already made significant investments in player acquisitions, including Enzo Fernandez’s £107 million deal in January and Moises Caicedo’s record-breaking £115 million move to Stamford Bridge in August.
If Chelsea manages to secure a deal for Osimhen, he would become the most expensive player in the Premier League. The Blues face competition from other clubs interested in the Napoli striker, with Arsenal and Manchester United also reportedly in the race for his signature.
Osimhen’s impressive goal-scoring record, boasting 31 goals across all competitions last season and six goals in 11 appearances this term, has intensified the competition for his services in the upcoming transfer window. Chelsea, alongside other top clubs, will be closely monitoring the developments surrounding Osimhen’s potential move in January.
