The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Zone 12 Command in Kano, has recognised a volunteer, Mr. Nura Abdullahi, for his uncommon display of honesty after returning more than N20 million forgotten by a fellow passenger in a commercial tricycle.
During a brief ceremony on Friday, the Zonal Commander, ACG Amos Abiodun-Taiwo, presented a commendation letter to Abdullahi, praising him for what he described as “a rare show of integrity, responsibility and professionalism.”
According to Abiodun-Taiwo, Abdullahi discovered the bag of money shortly after the passenger, identified as Alhaji Mustafa from Katsina State, alighted without realising he had left it behind. Abdullahi then used the last dialled number on his phone—having earlier lent it to the passenger—to contact and locate him.
“He represents the true image of his family, the Corps, and this nation. Stories like this deserve the same attention we give to negativity online. This is what young people should emulate,” he said.
The commander encouraged Nigerians to uphold integrity, noting that economic hardship should not be an excuse for moral failure. He added that Abdullahi would receive a befitting reward from the Corps.
A similar act of honesty made headlines in 2024 when a Katsina woman, Malama Abdulkadir-Yanmama, was rewarded with N500,000 for returning N748,320 belonging to the Federal Government’s school feeding programme.
