In a significant ceremony that took place recently, 28 states
in the Nigerian federation witnessed the
swearing-in of their respective
governors. Among these governors, ten incumbents were reelected for another
term, while the remaining eighteen were new to their positions.
The newly elected governors include Nasir Idris of Kebbi,
Kefas Agbu of Taraba, Bassey Otu of Cross River, Peter Mbah of Enugu, Mohammed
Bago of Niger, Uba Sani of Kaduna, Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto, and Umar Namadi of
Jigawa. Also among the new governors are Dikko Radda of Katsina, Umo Eno of
Akwa Ibom, Hyacinth Alia of Benue, Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi, Siminialayi
Fubara of Rivers, Alex Otti of Abia, Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau, Abba Kabir of
Kano, Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta, and Dauda Lawal of Zamfara.
In addition to the fresh faces, there were ten governors who
were successfully reelected for their second terms. These returning governors
include Seyi Makinde of Oyo, Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe, Bala Mohammed of Bauchi,
Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa, Mai Mala Buni of
Yobe, Babagana Zulum of Borno, Dapo Abiodun of Ogun, Abdullahi Sule of
Nasarawa, and Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara.
Notably, out of the 28 governors, the All Progressives
Congress (APC) secured the majority with 16 governors elected under its banner.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has ten governors representing their party,
while the Labour Party (LP) and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) each have
one governor in their ranks.
This comprehensive ceremony marked the official commencement
of governance for these 28 governors across Nigeria, representing the diverse
political landscape and aspirations of the nation.
