David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has resolved the breach of contract lawsuit filed against him by Brownhill Investment Company Limited, led by Amaju Pinnick, outside of court.
In October 2023, Pinnick, a former president of the Nigeria Football Federation, accused Davido of failing to meet his performance obligations at an event despite receiving $94,600.
Brownhill Investment Company Limited then filed a lawsuit at the Delta State High Court in Effurun, seeking N2.3bn in damages. The lawsuit alleged that Davido breached his contract by not performing at the 19th edition of the ‘Warri Again’ concert, despite receiving payment.
The claimant requested N150m for legal and professional fees, along with an additional N30m for the cost of filing the suit. Pinnick also cited expenses of $18,000 for arranging a chartered plane to transport Davido to Warri.
However, The Cable reported that both parties have reached a mutual agreement to settle the dispute out of court, which the High Court in Delta has subsequently approved.
As part of the settlement, Davido agreed to pay the claimant N30 million within seven days to contribute to their outstanding legal fees. Additionally, he committed to performing at the upcoming ‘Warri Again’ concert on October 4, 2024.
The $94,500 previously paid to Davido by the claimant will be considered as payment for his performance at the event.
The terms of settlement also include a public announcement by Davido on his social media platforms, confirming his participation in the 2024 concert and acknowledging the resolution of the dispute.
Both parties have agreed to withdraw any pending appeals related to the lawsuit. Moreover, the claimant will provide a private jet and accommodations for Davido’s performance at the concert.
These settlement terms are binding and will be presented in court for adoption by the parties’ respective counsel.
