The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (Rtd), on Thursday visited the family of the late Brigadier-General Musa Uba, who was recently killed by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists.
The visit, described as a show of solidarity with the Nigerian Armed Forces and respect for the fallen officer’s family, took place at the Uba residence in Abuja. In a post shared on X, the minister was seen meeting with the widow and children of the slain commander, offering words of comfort and honouring the late officer’s service.
General Musa praised Uba’s “exceptional bravery, uncommon dedication, and selfless service to the nation,” describing him as “a consummate professional whose sacrifice reflects the highest ideals of the Nigerian Armed Forces.”
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to intensifying the fight against terrorism and addressing all security threats undermining Nigeria’s stability. Musa also emphasised the Federal Government’s resolve to honour the legacy of personnel who have paid the ultimate price in defence of the country.
Brigadier-General Uba, who served as Commander of the 25 Task Force Brigade in Damboa, Borno State, was abducted and brutally executed by ISWAP. The terrorist group released a video and photograph of his killing on November 17, 2025.
His ordeal began on November 14 when troops and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force were ambushed along the Burum-Kubua axis of Damboa LGA. Two soldiers and two CJTF members were killed on the spot, with several others injured. Uba initially escaped the ambush and contacted Theatre Command via satellite phone and WhatsApp, providing his coordinates and assuring them he was attempting to return to base.
Despite rapid deployment of rescue teams and air support, he was captured by ISWAP fighters while trying to link up with rescuers and was subsequently executed.
General Musa reaffirmed that Nigeria would continue to honour fallen heroes like Uba while remaining steadfast in the ongoing war against terrorism.
