Former Governor of Bayelsa State and Senator representing Bayelsa West, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, has refuted reports suggesting that he has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
In a statement released on Friday by his media aide, Ajiri Daniels, the senator described the reports as false and misleading, stressing that he remains a committed and active member of the PDP.
Dickson explained that he has largely withdrawn from political engagements due to the recent death of the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Dr. Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, noting that he is currently observing a period of mourning.
According to the statement, the senator has been receiving condolence visits from friends, political leaders, allies and well-wishers from across the country, cutting across party lines and different sectors of society.
While acknowledging that he is closely following political developments nationwide, Dickson said he would only make any decision on his political future after the burial, following wide consultations with friends and associates. He added that any such decision would be formally communicated to the public.
The former governor emphasised that, for now, he remains a key leader within the PDP and expressed optimism that the party would address its internal challenges in line with its historic role in Nigeria’s democratic evolution.
He urged members of the public, party supporters and his followers to disregard the defection claims, describing them as fake news aimed at misleading the public, and advised them to rely solely on information from his verified communication channels.
