The Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party
(PDP) has issued a challenge to the Department of State Services (DSS) to
reveal the identities of those planning to install an interim government. This
challenge comes after the DSS released a statement alleging a plot by certain
individuals to establish an interim government and prevent Bola Tinubu from
being inaugurated as president on May 29th. The DSS claimed that this plot
included violent protests across the country, frivolous court injunctions, and
the engineering of a state of emergency. However, Atiku, through his media
aide, Timi Frank, has accused the DSS of fabricating this plot in order to
arrest him, the Labour Party’s Peter Obi, and to suppress peaceful protests.
Atiku argued that the DSS has failed to provide intelligence to prevent
banditry, kidnapping, and terrorist attacks on innocent Nigerians, and has only
become active when people protest against government policies or carry out
lawful political activities. Atiku also challenged the DSS to name the
politicians involved in the alleged plot to establish an interim government,
and urged the international community to call on President Buhari to stop the
DSS from interfering with the democratic process.
